Obituary of Alice J. (Gonos) Gallagher

Alice J. (Gonos)Gallagher, 83, of White Oak, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013. She was the beloved wife and best friend of 61 years of the late John M. "Jack" Gallagher; devoted mother of James Gallagher, of White Oak, John J. Gallagher, of White Oak, Patrick M. Gallagher (Deborah), of Hickory, Kathleen Morgan (Richard Jr.), of LaPlata, Md., and Eileen Gallagher Wissenbach (James Jr.), of Tampa, Fla. She is also survived by grandchildren, Ryan Gallagher (fiance, Nicole Nixon), Mercedes Denham (William), Matthew Morgan, Joshua Morgan, Meghan Wissenbach and a great-grandson, Walker Patrick Denham; as well as Cousins Florence and Loretta Rypka and by a large loving extended family including the Gonos, Momeyer, Gallagher, Whelan, Carey and Nied families. Alice was a 1947 graduate of Duquesne High School. In 1950, she graduated from the Presbyterian School of Nursing and began her long and devoted career as a registered nurse and nursing professional, including having served as a head nurse at Presbyterian Hospital, working at West Penn's Hospital Burn Trauma Center for many years and culminating her career with devoting herself to her private duty patients. In addition to her active nursing career and raising five children, she and her late husband were founding members of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200. A Mass of Roman Catholic Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, in St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon with Monsignor Paul Fitzmaurice officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, West Mifflin. Funeral arrangements are being handled by THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME INC., Swissvale, 412-271-0345.
