Charles C. Nied 

Charlie grew up in Edgewood and attended St Anselm grade school. There he was educated by the Sisters of Charity and was active in the choir and served as an altar boy.  He is also an alumnus of Central Catholic High School, Pace University in New York, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

Charlie has been a member of and Past President of the Swissvale Rotary, past member of the Word of God School Advisory Board, a member of the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, a member of the Irish Centre, a member of the A.O.H. and a board member of the Widowed persons service,  and a member of the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association, member of Italian Heritage International, The 1999 Diocesan of Pittsburgh Distinguished Catholic Graduate Award, Finance Committee of Word of God Parish, Italian Sons and Daughters of America, Primavera Lodge, World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh.

Charlie married Cynthia Cappuccio Nied in 1989.  They have 3 daughters; Devon, Alex and Paige. When he is not spending time with his family, Charlie enjoys skiing, gardening, and traveling internationally with his wife.

Charlie enjoys attending mass at his childhood church, St. Anselm Church-Word of God.

Mark E. Maraugha 

Mark grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and is the youngest of five children.  He attended St. Jude’s Catholic grade school, and Central Catholic High School, Toledo.  Mark went onto attend North Hills School of Health Occupation and got a certificate degree in Phlebotomy.  He worked as a phlebotomist for 10 years in the Pittsburgh area.  Mark went onto further his education by attending CCAC, and then to the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with an associate degree in mortuary science and an associate in specialize business.  Mark has been married for 25 years to his lovely wife Cindy.  He has two beautiful daughters Markie, Marlee, and an adorable granddaughter Gwen.  Mark’s passion is anything sports, especially baseball and I absolutely love CIGARS!

Jonathon D. Baughman 

Jon is a 2012 graduate of Montour High School.  After completing high school, Jon went on to study Business Management at Point Park University where he graduated in 2016.  To continue his education, he graduated the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 2017.  Jon served his internship at the funeral home and has since become licensed. He has been a part of the funeral home staff since 2017. Jon lives in Kennedy Township with his wife Cate, and his sons, Nolan, Kane, and Braedyn and his two dogs.  In his free time, Jon can be found at the baseball fields.

Shirley Serene

Shirley’s a “Swissvale lady”. She has worked for Grana’s market for 9 years, was a Swissvale crossing guard for five years and retired from Woodland Hills School District after 16 years, as a special education aide. Shirley has been a devoted member of the Nied Funeral Home family for the past 25 years. She has enjoyed helping the families that the funeral home has served and considers the whole staff her family.

In her spare time she enjoys sewing and crafting and listening to her favorite band, Chicago. By far her favorite activity is spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren.

Christopher J. Owoc

Pre-Need Director 

Chris attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1995.  He's been a PA licensed funeral director since 1996, and also has his insurance license to help families make prearrangements and properly fund them. Chris has been helping families in our area plan ahead for many years, and believes in the peace of mind it gives families when everything is arranged and funded years in advance.  He is an active member of the ACFDA, PFDA, and Elks.  Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 boys, and being involved in their activities.
