Obituary of Donald F. Paull

DONALD F. PAULLAge 86, of Forest Hills, died Monday, October 10, 2011. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Teresa (Jessell) Paull; loving father of Daniel J. Paull and his wife, Janet, of Forest Hills, David M. Paull and his wife, Carla, of Brooksville, FL, Gary D. Paull and his wife, Mary, of Lincoln Place, and Mark J. Paull of Shadyside. Don was the dear "Pap-Pap" of Brian Paull, Erin Paull Schwille and her husband, Michael, and Brandon Paull; brother of Frank Paull and the late Janet Gerst. Don is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. After graduating from South Hills High School, Don enlisted in the military and became a Naval Aviator with the rank of Lieutenant. After WWII, Don enrolled at Carnegie Tech (now CMU) on the GI Bill and within three years earned his BS in Electrical Engineering. He followed this accomplishment with a distinguished 36-year career as a Customer Service Engineer for IBM, retiring in 1987. At the age of 50, Don developed a passion for tennis and became one of the finest club players in the Forest Hills area. Don and his son Mark went on to win the East Hills Summer League Doubles Championship over multiple seasons and Don continued to enjoy this sport well into his 70s. In August, 2003, Forest Hills Council recognized Don for over 14 years of dedicated volunteer service for lovingly repairing and tending to the Community Center's tennis courts. Don and his wife Teresa loved to dance and play cards and in his later years, Don became a bridge aficionado. He was active in Boy Scout Troop 98 with his sons, enjoyed Pitt Panther basketball, reading his multiple daily papers, working in the yard, playing chess with his late brother-in-law, Pat O'Grady, and any and all desserts and homemade goodies. Don was extremely proud that all of his children completed college and went on to rewarding careers in their field of study. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME INC., 7441 Washington St., Swissvale. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the St. Maurice Roman Catholic Church, Ardmore Blvd., in Forest Hills. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cindy Simms/Marketing Director, Borough of Forest Hills Recreation Dept., 2071 Ardmore Blvd., Pgh., PA 15221.
