Ellen Gibbons Mullarkey

September 26, 1929 – January 23, 2023

Age 93, she passed away at home surrounded by her loving family/friends. Originally of County Mayo, Ireland and resident of Wilkinsburg for past 66 years.

Beloved mother of Catherine, Roger, John (Linda), Maureen Slaby (Gary) and Anne Mullarkey Sawa (James). Adored by grandchildren, John Michael (Jonna), John Joseph, Ryan (Juliet), Robert, Sean Peter, Sarah (Chris), Megan, Lauren (Marcel), Abigail and great granddaughters Emma, Ava and Harlow. Also survived by adopted family, Sue Mahute (Joe), Mary Locker and Tim Lewis as well as many others, all considered part of the Mullarkey Clan. Special thanks to family friend/hospice nurse, Jimmy Weyrauch who cared for her and us in her final days

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, John Michael Mullarkey, parent's Peter and Annie, siblings, Margaret, Barbara, Bridget, Patrick, Anthony, Edward and Sean; survived by sister Julia, many nieces/nephews in Ireland, England and Scotland.

John and Ellie married in Ireland and immigrated to Pittsburgh, PA in 1956. Ellie raised five children and worked outside the home as well. She was strong in her Catholic faith, devoted to the Blessed Mother, always had a seat at the table for those who were alone and thoroughly enjoyed her candy. She believed that prayer, a hot cup of tea and a good chat could make everything better. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Thomas L. Nied Funeral Home, Inc. 7441 Washington Street Swissvale, PA on Wednesday, January 25 from 2-4 pm; 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be at St. Mary Magdalene Parish, St. James Roman Catholic Church, Wilkinsburg, Thursday, January 26 at 10 am. Burial will follow at All Saint's Braddock Catholic Cemetery, Braddock Hills.

Memorial donations may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
