Idolo Anthony Zinobile
On December 7, 2022 of Point Breeze, went to his eternal reward peacefully at home after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Audrey DeMartini Zinobile, his brother Dominic (Theresa) Zinobile, his mother Angelina Ciampa Zinobile, and his father Pasquale Zinobile. He is survived by his brother Fred (Gloria), sister Connie (Zinobile) Gigliotti and three sons, Anthony, Michael and Thomas and by four grandchildren Amanda, Daniel, Nina, and Michael. Idolo was raised in Swissvale and graduated from Swissvale High School. Idolo was given the opportunity to try out for the Pittsburgh Pirates and played for their minor league team for a brief time in 1951. He then was drafted into the US Army and served in Korea where he was awarded two bronze stars for valor under enemy fire. It was also in the Army that his talent for baseball was recognized and he was recruited to play for the regimental team the Golden Dragons. After being honorably discharged, he returned to his home in Pittsburgh where he was employed initially as a welder and eventually as a structural steel layout worker. He met and married Audrey in 1957 and they moved to Point Breeze the following year where they raised their family. He was very active in St. Bede Parish, volunteered to help coach the J.V. football team, served as a Eucharistic minister and altar server and eventually was entrusted with the duties of sacristan which he continued to perform until his later years. He also had a bit of theatrical talent and enjoyed an active career as an "extra" in a number of movie and commercial roles over the years. Surrounded by his family, and with their assistance he was able to achieve his wish to live out his days in the family house. Friends received Thursday, December 15 2-8 P.M. at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME INC. 7441 Washington Street, Swissvale. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Parish, St. Bede Church on Friday December 16 at 10 A.M. with burial at Mt.
