Obituary of Kathleen K. McQuoid

Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kathleen (Kelly) McQuoid, 76, of Edgewood, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 25, 2022 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Kathie was born on April 13, 1946 to Edward F. Kelly and Rose (Moyer) Kelly in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1964, where she made many lifelong friends, who remained special and integral parts of her life nearly 60 years later.

Kathie was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Michael E. Kelly; and her ex-husband, Edward A. McQuoid, Jr. She is survived by her beloved children, Kelly (David Ross) and Kevin; her cherished granddaughter, Riley Frushell; her dear sister, Margaret (Peggy) Devlin; and her sister-in-law, Silvana Kelly. She remained close to her ex-husband's family, mother-in-law, Roseann McQuoid, sister-in-law, Carole Cann (James) and brother-in-law, Dennis McQuoid and their families.

Kathie had a sharp mind, an amazing quick wit, a love of puns and crossword puzzles, and could dance a mean Frug, Mashed Potato, and Twist. She was a single working mother decades before it was common and dedicated her life to raising her children. When they were young, she taught them a love of reading with nightly bedtime stories – often Encyclopedia Brown or her own Genevieve tales – which her children still talk about and remember fondly (often with laughter) nearly 50 years later. When her children were older, she instilled a strong work ethic in them that has driven them to be successful – no one left the house on the weekends until it was clean! But, most importantly, she taught them to love family fiercely and to always have fun – family game nights and random car rides to listen to the Sunday Night Oldies Party were common and make for happy memories. Somehow, no matter how short on money she was, she always made Christmases magical for the family, creating family traditions that will continue for generations to come, and there was a fun-filled beach vacation every summer. She taught her children many lessons, including resilience, strength, and fairness, but the most important lesson was to laugh often, even in the darkest times. That lesson is the one that all her loved ones will lean on most now as they learn to move forward without her.
