Mary Ann Mackin, 86, born Marianna DeRosa on December 23, 1935 in Scottdale, PA passed away peacefully in her home in Forest Hills, PA in the presence of family on May 26, 2022. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, John Thomas Mackin, as well her siblings Patrick, Angelina, Francesca, Concetta, and Michael. Loving mother of Maria (Declan) Walsh and Elizabeth (Steve) Karas; cherished grandmother of Collette Walsh, Betty Walsh, Seamus Walsh and Ava Karas. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. MaryAnn was a proud graduate of Scottdale High School and St. Francis nursing college. She worked as a psychiatric nurse at the Veterans Hospital Administration on Highland Drive from 1958 to 2004. MaryAnn was the driving force behind the restoration of pensions to ALL part time nurses throughout VA system after an arduous 20-year legal battle with the US Government. She was instrumental in changing the lives of nurses all over the United States. Toward the end of her life, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family and continued to be a devout practicing Catholic.
