Obituary of Edith M. Escher

Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edith M. Escher, 91, of Swissvale, passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2022 and has reunited with her late husband, John Escher. She was born in Illinois on August 18, 1930. She was a dedicated wife of 63 years and a beloved mother of 7. Her love of children was also seen through her job as a kindergarten aide at the former St. Anselm School for over 30 years. She was known for having the entire family help trace and cut out projects for her classroom. She also had a love for animals. After retirement, Edith would foster cats and kittens for a local rescue. She could also be found outside sitting on her porch watching the squirrels. But her proudest moments of all, was having her family together especially at the acre, and watching all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play. She was a dedicated mother and she taught us all how to overcome barriers in life through strength and perseverance. She will always be remembered for her huge heart and always wanting to help others whether two or four legged. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Escher, son, Raymond Escher, and son-in-law, Bruce Rossey. Her life will continue to live through the lives of her family and close friends. She is survived by her children, Mary (Pete) Talento of Penn Hills, Jack (Nancy) Escher of Ohio, Jim (Bernie) Escher of Monroeville, Theresa Rossey of Swissvale, Bob Escher of Braddock Hills, and Tom (Cindy) Escher of Indianapolis, IN., former daughter in law, Marybeth Hayes, 17 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren as well has her devoted felines Bennie and Butter and many close friends. The family would like to say a special thank you to Heritage Hospice, especially Dr. Gregory Walker, Jesse, Alesha, Colleen, and Emma for their support and care during this time and also to MaryBeth Koontz, a dear friend and caregiver. Your thoughtfulness and beautiful voice will always be remembered. Friends and family are welcome Tuesday only from 2p-4p and 6p-8p at Thomas L. Nied Funeral Home, 7441 Washington Ave., Swissvale. A blessing service will be held at Nied's on Wednesday at 9:30am.
