Obituary of John W. Shovel

John W. Shovel, of Plum Borough, age 67, formerly of Swisshelm Park, passed away peacefully at home on November 20, 2021.  He was the most loving companion and is survived by his fiance', Carol Groat; loving father of John W. Shovel, Jr. and his wife, Kate, Christen Rock and her husband Dan; grandfather of Dylan, Brendan, Logan, Emma, and Austin,  and the mother of his children, Lori Shovel. John is the son of the late John and Joan Shovel and is survived by his five siblings Sharon Mitsch (Dan), Susan Mann (Steve), David Shovel (Glenda), Joan Lynn Fazio (Ross), and Rick Shovel (Jill). John is a high school graduate of St. Anselm's School where he furthered his education at Dean Technical School and became an electrician.  In his spare time, he loved to golf, spend time with family and friends, and surprise his grandchildren with donuts on Saturday and Sunday mornings. John handled his illness with strength, grace and determination while wanting to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. Friends will be received from 12-4 on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME INC., 7441 Washington St., Swissvale.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the Word of God Church in Swissvale.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society,  320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
