Obituary of Sara G. Thomas

Sara G. "Sally" Thomas, 85, of Monroeville Pa. passed away October 12, 2021 at UPMC East in Monroeville. Sally, a lifelong resident of Regent Square and Swissvale was born on October 15, 1935 in Punxsutawney PA. After graduating from Punxsutawney High School she joined the USAF and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the nursing corp. Following her military service, Sally graduated from Nursing School where she made her career working then retiring as head nurse in the cardiac catheterization department of UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA. Her love for nursing was never-ending as she was there for anyone who needed help with scrapes, bruises, cuts, injuries, and especially supporting seniors in their time of need. She loved her arts, crafts and card stamping, often winning local awards in events she would enter. She was often referred to as the "Martha Stewart" of Swissvale. She enjoyed hand making and personalizing all her cards for friends and family. She proudly served on the Swissvale Planning Board and always looked for ways to support and improve her community. Sally enjoyed boating with her many friends at the Duquesne and Algonquin Boat Clubs in Oakmont, traveling with her longtime loving companion Ron McEwen, visiting with grandchildren, watching Pirates baseball, and always came home to enjoy time with her cats. Sally and Ron spent 40 years together and were inseparable. Together they loved to cruise the rivers spending time on their boat and their love for each other will remain for eternity. Sally is survived by her 3 sons, Barry (Patricia) Gibson, Craig (Irma) Gibson, Kelly (Michelle) Thomas. She has 3 grandchildren Nicole Gibson, Kristian Thomas, and Taylor Gibson.
