Obituary of Robert Eugene Soderberg

Age 70, of Swissvale, Robert (Bob) Eugene Soderberg has made his trip to be with God on September 17, 2021. He is survived by his sister Donna E. Shubert with her husband Joe and his niece Jodie Lyn of Monroeville, brother James A. Soderberg and his wife Peggy, nephew Jason, and nieces Michelle, Jessica, Melissa and Nikki of Ligonier PA, brother John H. Soderberg Sr., his wife Patty, nephew John Jr. (JJ), and nieces Marie, Christina and Angelina of Pittsburgh, and his loving girlfriend Nancy (Elliott) Flinner of Greensburg. He is also survived by great nephew Alex and great niece Haley.

He will be greeted in eternity by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his mother and father Evelyn C. and Clifford O. Soderberg of Swissvale, and his nephew Justin Clifford Shubert of Monroeville.

In addition to his loving family, Bob was beloved by the Swissvale Fire Department where he had over 50 years of service. He served as a career firefighter and a previous Battalion Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. Bob was one of the original members of the Rescue S Ambulance Service in the early to mid- 1970's, where he became one of the first paramedics in the State of Pennsylvania.

Bob was employed for 50 years by Mine Safety Appliance Co in Murrysville Pa. as a repair technician.

One of Bob's many long-term accomplishments was volunteering as a Midget Football Coach for 50 years and serving as the President of the Swissvale Athletic Association and the Swissvale/Braddock Wolverine's. He also organized many football trips to Virginia Beach Virginia over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Bob was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He has traveled to many away football games and has also attended several Super Bowl victories.

He was truly a servant to the community, enjoyed spending time with the family he loved very much, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Friends will be received at the Thomas L. Nied Funeral Home, 7441 Washington Avenue, Swissvale, PA 15218 on Tuesday September 21, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-9pm. A Mass of  Christian Burial Service will take place on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at The Word of God Roman Catholic church Swissvale, Pa.Burial  in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroeville PA.
