Obituary of Veronica Rose Greenberg

Veronica Rose Greenberg, June 12, 1934 to July 22, 2021 It is with a mixture of profound sadness and our hearts full of gratitude that the family of Veronica R. Greenberg, 87, of Pittsburgh, PA, announces her passing on July 22, 2021. Veronica lived a full and blessed life, always surrounded by family and friends who loved and appreciated her. She was born June 12, 1934 in Cardiff, Wales, to Daniel and Mary Crowley. She was the second youngest of seven children. She grew up in Slough, England, where she experienced the Second World War first-hand, as she recalled the bombing of London and attending school in underground bomb shelters. After the war, she went to work at the age of 15 as a seamstress. In May of 1959, Veronica came to the United States, where she lived with her sister, Bernadette, in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. Shortly after arriving in the States, she began working as a seamstress and met Louis R. Greenberg, a Squirrel Hill native, at a YMCA dance. Veronica and Louis were married at St. Paul's Cathedral in Oakland, and raised four children: Mary Jane (Richard) Cichowicz, Beth (David) DeFelice, Karen (William) Schroeder, and Paul Greenberg. Veronica lived most of her life at the family home on Milton Street in Regent Square. She was naturalized as a U.S. citizen, but never lost any of her delightful British accent! She worked at the chancellor's residence at the University of Pittsburgh for more than 25 years, retiring in 1996. After retirement, she volunteered at the University of Pittsburgh Children's Hospital for about 10 years, providing love and comfort to the infants suffering from severe illnesses. Veronica spent a considerable amount of time with her daughters and grandchildren in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey, and she visited her son at his various military duty stations throughout the States. She also spent quality time with her beloved nephew Ronald and his wife Anna in California. Veronica was a world traveler over the past 25 years, making voyages with family and friends to Morocco, South Africa, Australia, Ireland, Greece, and Italy. Veronica leaves behind a loving and devoted family that she was very proud of, and who valued her unique personality beyond estimation. Veronica is predeceased by her beloved husband Louis by 27 years. She is survived by her four children and their spouses. She also dearly loved her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her life was a testament to the fact that happiness and fulfillment can be attained through dedication to family, personal integrity, hard work, respect for all people, and an unwavering faith in God. She will live on in all the lives she helped to shape and positively influence. Family and friends will be received at the Thomas L.
