Obituary of Gloria Aiello Aubele

Please share a memory of Gloria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gloria Aiello Aubele passed away peacefully June 1st 2021. In her 99 years she lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the discovery of penicillin, the first man on the moon, the invention of the internet, and a second global pandemic. Gloria was a devoted mother of three who took on her responsibilities without protest. She would do the weekly grocery run on foot with only a cart to transport the groceries home, having never obtained a drivers license, and tackled the never-ending laundry done on a wring washer with only an outside line for drying. From a close knit Italian speaking family, Gloria had a tradition of making ravioli on Christmas morning for her family and would bake chocolate chip cookies allowing the kids to eat the warm treats right from the oven. After her children had grown, Gloria could always be counted on to help out whenever necessary. She would be the first one in the kitchen with a dish towel draped on her shoulder ready to take on the mountain of plates, glasses, pots, and pans that were inevitably present after a party. Gloria and her husband Gil loved to visit Florida and even lived there for a time. She would always speak of it as if it was the best place on earth and would not hear it any other way. Gloria was steadfast in her opinions and even when challenged she would never waver. After she moved into assisted living Gloria continued to live her life on her terms and would engage in activities, made many friends, and never complained about ailments that would arise always keeping a positive "it will be fine" attitude. Gloria had a love for music and was able to play the piano by ear. She would continue to have an interest in music throughout her life from playing music on the porch when her children were young to later participating in oldies events in Canterbury, and taking requests at the piano whenever she had the chance to play. Her gentle nature, childlike innocence, and steadfast independence made Gloria a unique and special woman to those who had the good fortune to know her. She was loved dearly and will be missed by her three children, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and countless other friends and family. Arrangements were entrusted to the Thomas L. Nied Funeral Home, Inc., 7441 Washington Street Swissvale, PA. www.niedfuneralhome.com
