Obituary of Curt F Roemele

Curt F. Roemele Age 84, beloved husband of Cynthia Gruszka Roemele, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021, following an extended illness. Curt was born February 12, 1937, in Pittsburgh, PA's North Side, the son of A.E. "Bud" Roemele and Madeline Barron Roemele. Curt graduated from North Catholic High School, followed by a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Counselor Education. His career included working with the Poverty Program's VISTA Volunteers, Counseling at Carlow College and lastly, as Cabinetmaker/Maintenance Department at the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children. After retiring, Curt enjoyed traveling i England, Ireland, France,, Poland, as well as taking an extended cross country driving tour of the United States' upper northern tier. Curt enjoyed a hobby of woodworking, which ultimately led to his employment at the School for Blind Children. It was the best job he had ever had, he often said. He completed an elaborate kitchen addition to their home to accommodate his wife Cindy's love of cooking. Curt was usually seen working on the New York Times crossword puzzle, or having a book in his hands about the world's religions, philosophy or history. The several bookcases in his home filled with his books were witness to his love of learning. At one time he even took an independent course in Calculus to complete studies he hadn't finished years ago. Curt is survived by his wife Cindy and their three daughters: Mary O'Keefe (Brian) Zelienople, PA; Elyse Clarke (Derek) Cincinnati, OH; Ann Buchek (Mark) Cranberry Twp., PA. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Connor, Kyle and Madeline O'Keefe; Lauren and Ethan Clarke; and Nicole and Ally Buchek. Curt is pre-deceased by his parents, and his brothers Carl and Jon. The family suggests donations be made to the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children, 201 Bellefield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, In lieu of flowers. There will be no viewing.
