FRANK WILLIAM (BILL) REED Age 101, of Forest Hills died April 2, 2021, at home. He was born in Clavering, Essex, England, the eldest son of Fred and Eva Reed. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Margaret; and daughters, Judith Meder (David), Elizabeth Reed; and son, Michael (Sally). He was the loving grandfather of Jillian Beierlein (Jimmy), Jennifer and Christopher Meder, Kyle and Nicholas Reed. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Gillian Wigley of Norfolk, England. Frank left school at age 14 and was apprenticed to a tool maker. He continued his engineering education by attending night school in London while working in the aeronautical industry. In 1952, he and his wife emigrated to Canada where their two daughters were born. In 1956, employment opportunities brought the family to the US, emigrating first to New England until a job offer from Westinghouse brought the family to Pittsburgh in 1969. Throughout his life, Frank loved classical music, opera and ballet. In retirement, he rediscovered his violin and enjoyed taking lessons and playing with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra and the Tuesday Music Club. He and Margaret enjoyed taking long walks together. Frank also was an accomplished craftsman, leaving behind many reminders of his skill and creativity throughout his home and garden. Arrangements are under the direction of the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME, Swissvale. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra.
