MARYLYN BERITH KNOLLE On Thursday, March 25, 2021, Marylyn Berith Knolle, loving mother, grandmother, widow, and sister, passed peacefully at the age of 84. Marylyn was born on August 23, 1936, in Denver, Colorado to two Swedish immigrants, Karl and Jinne Olsen. She grew up in Denver on Grant Street and attended the University of Denver where she earned her undergraduate degree and she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She then obtained her master's degree in Education at the University of Pittsburgh. She married Lawrence "Larry" Mitchell Knolle on June 23, 1957, whom she met in high school. Marylyn was a faithful member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She loved the sunshine and her many beach vacations, as well as summers poolside at the Edgewood Club (where everyone knew her as "Gaga"). Marylyn was an avid reader, music lover (played piano), sang in the Pittsburgh Oratory Society and in the church choir. She took great pride in her beautiful garden at her longtime home on Maple Avenue. Marylyn was a talented knitter and knit sweaters that are cherished by all. Marylyn was a substitute teacher and would often sub at Edgewood High School (to the chagrin of her children who she sometimes had as students). She went on to have a successful business career working for Cigna medical insurance supporting Westinghouse employees. Marylyn, her husband, and friends, traveled often internationally and explored places such as Machu Picchu, Peru, many European countries, and other exotic areas. One of her last trips was a Scandinavian cruise with her sister Greta and they stopped in Sweden to meet family. Marylyn was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her sisters, Astrid and June; and her brother, Carl. She is survived by her sister, Greta Dunn; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Frelke; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was a dedicated mother to her children, L. Mark Knolle, Eric (Barbara) Knolle, and Lisa Knolle Bould; as well as her grandchildren, Matthew (Allison) Knolle, Joshua Knolle, Sophia (Karla) Knolle-Perez, Renee Knolle, Naomi Knolle, Mitchell Bould, and Greta Bould; also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Katherine Knolle. Friends received at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME, INC. 7441 Washington Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15218 on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sheldon Calvary Camp, 4411 Lake Road, Conneaut, OH 44030; or online at calvarycamp.org/donate. www.niedfuneralhome.com
