My condolences to Amy, Jim's family and all of his friends. I have known Jim for over 45 years. He was my first baseball coach when I played for the Wilkinsburg Cubs and I have run into him from time to time over the years. I would often see him in Church with Amy and his family. Many people do not realize the hours upon hours Jim donated to Wilkinsburg Baseball and Wilkinsburg as a whole. . There was over 25 years of coaching and time spent on the field but there were also countless hours taking care of Whitney Park. I can't think of a single person who was more dedicated to Wilkinsburg or Wilkinsburg Little League then Jim. Coaching, cutting the grass, "dragging" the infield and clean up the Park were just a few on Jim's volunteer activities. As great as accomplishments as those items are, they are exceeding by one thing, his supervision and mentoring our Wilkinsburg's youth. I can't imagine the number of young boys that Jim influenced throughout his many years with Wilkinsburg Baseball. Teaching them about the game and how to play as a team. Values many of them probably took into other aspects of their lives. I, for one, learned a lot about baseball but more about how to interact properly with fellow players, coaches and people in general. White, black, fat or skinny, rich or poor-we all played the game and interacted.
For his years of dedication I would love to see Whitney Field renamed to The James Frank Field. I wish that could have been done during Jim's life so he could have been rewarded for his efforts but now I believe it should be done in his memory. I will write a letter to the Borough Council asking that they take the matter under consideration. I hope you will consider doing the same.
Rest In Peace Jim.
