Obituary of Mary Ann Langan

MARY ANN LANGAN Age 91, wife of the late Francis Joseph Langan, passed away peacefully at her home in Scranton, PA on June 16, 2020. She was born in Archbald, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Kane Murphy. She married Francis Langan on April 6, 1953 and together they devoted their life to raising their 12 children in Pittsburgh, PA. Mary Ann's Catholic faith was the rock on which she always leaned. Mary Ann was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Ladies of Charity and Christian Mothers. Mary Ann was a wonderfully caring person who was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caregiver and friend. Her smile and laughter and Irish eyes could light up a room, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mary Ann is proceeded in death by her late husband Francis and survived by her twelve children (plus one bonus child), Mary Frances Langan, Rosemarie Langan, Judy Wright (Richard), Barbara Langan (Pat), Lorraine Langan (Hank, deceased), Frank Langan (Tracy), Marianne Bouris (Anthony) Joseph Langan, Patrick Langan (Kelly), Jeanmarie Spradlin (Thomas), Stephen Langan (Tasha) and Andrew Langan (Jodi) and her eighth bonus daughter Stacy Hastings (Brian). She is also survived by her brother Daniel (Vivian) Murphy, sister-n-law Marie (James, deceased) Murphy, brother in laws James (Mary Jane) Langan, John Langan (Sheryl), and Thomas (Mary Ann) Langan. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her sisters Hilda Hunt, Kathleen Moore and Agnes Murphy along with her brothers Frank Murphy, Gerald Murphy, and her sister-n-laws Ann Murphy Langan and Lillian Langan. Mary Ann is also survived by 23 beloved grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 at the THOMAS NIED FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7441 Washington Street, Swissvale. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Church in Wilkinsburg by family friend Father David Dewitt on Monday, June 22 at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Braddock Hills Catholic Cemetery. The family would also like to thank Mary Ann's aide Linda White from Scranton for her devotion and wonderful care and also her nurse Angela and the staff from Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Scranton PA.
