Mary Elizabeth Deneselya 1924-2022 Mary Elizabeth Deneselya died peacefully in her sleep at Butler Memorial Hospital, Butler, PA on October 19, 2022 after suffering a fall at her home. Born on October 21, 1927 in Braddock, PA, Mary Elizabeth, affectionately known as Liz, was the oldest of nine children born to Peter and Mary (Zerisknek) Deneselya. Liz was a graduate of Rankin High School and had worked in Braddock at the Famous Department Store for several years until the death of her father in 1952, after which she remained at home for a few years to assist with the family business and help raise her 8 siblings. In 1958, she accompanied her sister, Pauline, to an interview in Washington, DC, where she also interviewed and both were hired as secretarial staff for the Pentagon, where Liz would work for many years before retiring in the early 2000's. She later moved to live with her younger sister Janet of Butler, PA. Liz enjoyed the excitement of Washington, DC and lived in Arlington, VA, often shopping, reading and spending time with a brother and nephews nearby. She was always enthusiastic about life and loved Christmas, often sending gifts to relatives and visiting many of them in Rankin, PA at the Holidays. In her later years, Liz was especially excited to fly for the first time to visit a sister and her family in New Hampshire. She was proud of her work for the government and being able to know many of the Generals and staff at the Pentagon, where her tenure spanned many Presidential terms. Liz was predeceased by her parents and siblings Anna, Helen, Martha, Pauline and Peter. She is survived by her sister Janet and two brothers, Robert of Uniontown, Ohio, and Donald, who resides in a nursing home in Maryland, as well as two nephews, six nieces, and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. She is sadly missed by all who knew her. Final arrangements were made through the Thomas L. Nied Funeral Home, Inc., 7441 Washington Street, Swissvale, PA, and she will be buried in Homewood Cemetery, next to her parents and two deceased siblings. www.niedfuneralhome.com
